I have been writing novels and posting them on KidPub for close to four years. I've seen a lot of the big name stories come through, each with fan art and covers and websites. However, somehow, this is the first time I've gotten around to creating a website of my own for one of my stories.
Dah, dah, dah! *Cue the fanfare*
Welcome to the site dedicated to Aberrant Shadows!
The thing about AS, as I've lovingly begun to refer to it, is that it isn't the most anything. It isn't my most popular story on KidPub. That honor would go to Tuesday and a Half. It's not the most original idea I've ever conceived (though others might disagree, I still think that's Spectrum). It's not the most literary and philosophical and deep--no, that's the "other project" I've been working on as of late, but not disclosing details about. It isn't my oldest story, and it isn't my newest. It just is.
I remember, a long time ago, when the term "soul story" came into popularity on KidPub. Everyone was searching desperately, trying to find the story that stuck with them and took up a huge space in their heart. At first, I gave this lofty title to Tuesday and a Half. Then, when I wrote Powerless, I transferred over the honor. And I've written a number of things since then. But somehow, Aberrant Shadows stays with me.
Kiri is not me. I don't envy her life--not even close. But there is something resilient about her story that refuses to leave me, regardless of how many times I get writers block, or find inspiration to tell a different tale.
So I just keep coming back to it.
Whew. That was serious. Glad we got that out of the way.
Now, without further ado, please enjoy the website, the blog, and the story. Hope to see y'all soon.
